Calming Rhythms

Calming Rhythms contains specialized rhythms and rhythmic techniques that have been shown in clinical trials to aid in the reduction of anxiety - in most cases taking just a few minutes to achieve. Calming Rhythms is especially effective for people who experience chronic levels of anxiety, who frequently suffer from acute cases of anxiety, or who simply want to achieve a calm neurological state. This CD is effective for both individuals and groups.

Calming Rhythms has three tracks on it, each with a slightly different effect. All of them will create neurological calm but one may work best for you in one situation over another. Calming Rhythm includes:

* Track #1: Many of our clients find that the first track is most beneficial for ending a tantrum or feelings of acute anxiety.

* Track #2: This track adds an element of deep centeredness for many people and is especially effective for high arousal, easily over-stimulated listeners.

* Track #3: This track creates a more focused calm, one that can aid with activities where you prefer to be attentive to what you are doing or thinking. It is also a more appropriate track for low arousal, slow-to-respond listeners.

Calming Rhythms can be used several ways:

* Calm your nervous system. The most common use for this recording. Simply turn it on at a very low volume as described in the instructions and do a quiet activity such as reading, eating, resting, quietly playing, etc.

* Reduce acute feelings of anxiety. Turn this recording on anytime you feel anxious or a listener experiences a tantrum. It usually takes just a few minutes to create calm.

* Stop tantrums.  The middle of the afternoon can be a challenging time for people on the autism spectrum and this often translates into an increase in tantrums and "acting out" behaviors. Playing Calming Rhythms in the afternoon when you see the early signs of a tantrum can help quell them. If you miss the onset of the tantrum and are in the middle of one, you can also turn the recording on. It will stop the tantrum in no time.

* Calm your bedtime and fall asleep. Because alpha is the pre-sleep state of consciousness , bedtime is the perfect time to play Calming Rhythms to help your brain make the shift from your wakeful day to a nice restful sleep. The key to using this recording at bedtime is to turn it on when you turn out the light and set the volume especially low.  The recording shouldn’t be noticeable after a minute or two as you lay in bed. If it is, you may want to turn it down a bit more.

The price for the CD is $35. Includes free shipping. The download version is only $29.

Focusing Rhythms

Focusing Rhythms contains specialized rhythms and rhythmic techniques that have been shown in clinical trials to aid in increasing focused attention – in most cases taking just a few minutes to achieve. Focusing Rhythms is especially effective for people who experience problems maintaining focused attention or for anyone who just wants some help sustaining their attention on a specific task.

Focusing Rhythms has three tracks on it, each with a slightly different effect. All of them will create neurological calm but one may work best for you in one situation over another. Focusing Rhythm includes:

* Track #1:This track provides a general focus accompanied by mild calm for people anyone with a need to focus better.

* Track #2: This track adds an element of deep centeredness for many people and is especially effective for high anxiety, impulsive listeners.

* Track #3: This track creates a more intense focus and is especially effective for people that have exceptional difficulty focusing. It is also the most appropriate track for low arousal, inattentive types.

Focusing Rhythms can be used several ways:

* Jumpstart your morning. Many people with attention issues have a difficult time transitioning from sleep to their day. Playing Focusing Rhythms first thing in the morning helps organize your brain and get you going.

* Play it before you need to focus. Simply turn the recording at the volume described at the beginning of the download before you need to focus, such as before a test or before doing work that requires your attention, and begin once the recording is over.

* Play it during your task to keep you focused. Play this CD as you work. The volume is critical for this purpose - if it’s too loud it will keep you from being able to focus because it will distract you. Set it at a volume where it won’t be “listened” to. It only needs to be loud enough for your  “primitive” brain to hear it. This means it should be quiet enough to fall below your awareness after just a couple of minutes.

* Recharge your day. Many people with attention problems also have low energy, especially in the afternoon. Playing this CD when you feel tired will give you a boost by activating your brain.

This CD is effective for both individuals and groups. Price: $35. Includes free shipping. The download version is only $29.

Sleep Rhythms

For over fifteen years the Strong Institute has been at the forefront of music-medicine research
exploring how musical rhythm can be used to affect brain function. Part of this innovative research has focused on synchronizing the listener’s brain andproducing a state of neurological calm.

Sleep Rhythms contains specialized techniques that have been shown in clinical trials to aid in speeding the onset of sleep – in most cases taking just a few minutes to achieve. This recording is especially effective for people who have a hard time getting to sleep at night.

To obtain the best results from this recording, play it quietly in the background when you
turn off the light to go to sleep at night.

This 90-minute recording contains 2 tracks:

• Track #1: This track contains REI rhythms accompanied by a guided meditation to help you let go of your day and to help any negative thoughts and beliefs you may have which can keep you from falling asleep. Choose this track if you need the meditation to calm your mind.

• Track #2: This track contains REI rhythms only and is preferable if you don’t need the
narration to fall asleep.

Technical note: Because track #1 has a voice-over narration, the REI rhythms are placed
further in the background than is typical for an REI recording. If you have one of our other
recordings, you will find that you need to turn this one up higher than the recordings without
the narration.

Sleep Rhythms is only available as a download. The price is only $29.00

The SI Series 8-CD set focuses on Sensory Integration (SI) to aid in supporting optimal sensory function. This set is designed with the Sensory Integration professional in mind. The CDs in this set can be used during SI exercises or in between SI sessions and focuses on four primary sensory areas - auditory, proprioception, tactile, and vestibular. Clearly written instructions are included, allowing these CDs to be effectively used with minimal training. You can also download the REI SI Series rating scale that helps determine which CD and track to use. You can find the SI Series Rating Scale here and complete SI Series Instruction Maunal here.

The SI Series CD set includes:

Auditory: Hyper Sensitive is for people who are over-sensitive to or bothered by sounds.

Auditory Hypo Sensitive is for people who are unresponsive or seek auditory input.

Proprioception: Hypo-Sensitive is for people with lack of awareness of their body and are calmed by deep pressure.

Proprioception: Grading of Movement is for people who have dificulty modulating their movement, or who are uncoordinated.

Tactile: Hyper Sensitive is for people who have an aversion to light touch and react in a negative emotional way.

Tactile: Hypo Sensitive is for people who  are unresponsive to touch, or who have poor tactile discrimination.

Vestibular: Hyper Sensitive is for people who get motions sickness easily or are anxious by their movement in the wold.

Vestibular: Hypo Sensitive is for people who seek physical movement and often take excessive risks while playing or moving.

Each CD in this set contains 3 approximately 20-minute long tracks. Choose one track to play during sensory exercises or between sensory integration therapy sessions. Choose your track based upon the following criteria:

 • Track #1 contains the least amount of stimulation. Choose this track for people with the most severe level of hyper-sensitivity or the lowest level of hypo-sensitivity.

 • Track #2 contains slightly more stimulation. Choose this track for people with a moderate level of hyper-sensitivity or hypo-sensitivity.

 • Track #3 contains the most stimulation. Choose this track for people with the most severe level of hypo-sensitivity or the lowest level of hyper-sensitivity.

Here's one professional's experience with the REI SI Series CDs:

"We use the REI SI Series CDs as an additional modality during regular treatment sessions in our clinic with our children with sensory processing disorder. We were able to document an impact on sensory processing during the very first session when using the CDs.

"We were working with a 5 year old boy, who insisted on starting every session with at least 15-20 minutes of rotary input, prone in the “Frog Swing”. This had been going on for weeks. He was really “stuck” in a cycle of craving vestibular input; his brain was not yet integrating the information.

"We started a session with the “Vestibular: Hypo Sensitive” CD, having the CD playing as he walked into the room. For the first time in weeks, he was responsive to the therapist’s request for choosing a new starting activity. He chose to do a jumping and crashing activity, which he repeated for at least half the session, exploring and enjoying the proprioceptive input, as he had not done before.

"Clearly this was in response to the REI input. From then on, he was able to vary his treatment sessions without craving repeating sensation for long periods of time.

"We are quite impressed with the impact of the input from the REI SI Series CDs when we use them in conjunction with our regular therapeutic tools and techniques and are continuing to expand their use in our clinic."
